How we can help
Our criteria
SeeSaw supports children and families after the death of a parent, carer or sibling. We support families with children and young people up to the age of 18 and can offer direct support to children and young people aged 5–18.
If the person who has died is a grandparent or another family member without a caring role, we can offer advice, information and resources to help support the family.
We ask families to request support directly. Young people can also request support for themselves.
Early support after a death
When a parent or sibling has died suddenly, the first few weeks can feel overwhelming. SeeSaw offers early support to help parents and carers understand how best to support their children.
Where possible we meet in person, either at home or in our family room in Headington. We can also offer support by phone or video call.
Advice for parents and carers
Many children manage their grief best when the adults around them feel supported.
Our telephone advice service gives parents and carers the chance to speak with one of our grief support team about concerns and receive practical guidance. In some cases, we may also offer a one-off session at home or in our family room.
One-to-one grief support
Sometimes children and young people need a little more help. After an initial assessment with one of our grief support team, we may offer one-to-one grief support sessions.
These sessions help children understand their feelings and find ways to manage their grief, and are usually delivered at home by one of our trained support workers.
