How we use your personal details
SeeSaw provides support, information and advice for children, young people and their families, who have been or will be bereaved. At SeeSaw, we rely on the generosity and support of private individuals to carry out our work. We take your privacy seriously, and are committed to being transparent about why we need the personal details that we request when you support us, and how we will use that information.
When we will get in touch
When you give us your personal details (for example, when you make a donation, sign up to receive email newsletters, sign up to volunteer with us or register to take part in an event) you may receive follow up information from us that is directly relevant to this activity, including how your support is helping to make a difference to the children and families we work with.
If you have provided us with consent to use your details for marketing purposes, then we may also contact you about SeeSaw’s fundraising activities and events, SeeSaw projects, appeals and other ways to support us.
Where you consent to us sending you marketing information, we will treat this as lasting for 4 years, at which time we will check that you would like to continue to hear from us and how you would like to hear from us. We provide easy ways to stop our marketing, and you can opt out at any time.
We will not share your data with anyone for marketing purposes. We do not share data with anyone for marketing purposes and you will not receive offers from other companies or organisations as a result of giving your details to us.
We may need to share limited information with our service providers who help us to prepare and send our electronic communications and to process donations. However, we do not allow these organisations to use your data for their own purposes and take steps to ensure that that they keep your data secure, and delete it when it is no longer needed.
What details we ask for and why
We only collect and store personal data that is relevant to the type of transactions you have with SeeSaw, and where there is legitimate interest to do so. For example, when you contact SeeSaw to make a donation, sign up to any of SeeSaw’s activities or our e-newsletter, or you telephone, email, write to or engage with SeeSaw via our social media channels, we may receive and retain personal information about you. This can include details such as your name, email address, postal address, telephone number, bank account details to process donations and whether or not you are a tax payer so that we can claim Gift Aid.
We are required by HMRC to keep any financial information related to donations for 7 years. After the time period has elapsed we will delete electronic information and destroy any information held on paper.
We do not collect “sensitive personal data” about our supporters, e.g. relating to your health, unless there is a clear reason for doing so – for example, if you are participating in one of our physical challenge events. We might need this to ensure that we can provide the appropriate facilities and support to enable you to participate in the event. However, clear notices will be provided on application forms for such events so that it is clear what information we need and why we need it, and we will only hold this information with your specific consent.
Profiling
Sometimes we may analyse the personal information we collect to create a profile of your interests and preferences so that we can contact you in the most appropriate way and with the most relevant information. From time to time we carry out an analysis of our supporters and the donations they have made. Some of the results from this analysis provide us with an indication of who might be
interested in attending fundraising events. We will carry out research on the demographics, interests and behaviour of supporters to help us gain a better understanding of them and to enable us to improve our service to them.
If you are under 16
If you are aged 16 or under, we are not allowed to keep your information for marketing or fundraising purposes. If you want to be informed about our news and events, you can ask your parent or guardian for them to give their permission for us to use their details to keep in touch.
